Grown ups have Wallets that aren’t covered in Gum

February 20th, 2012 by Bekah Brunstetter

Today on Things that are Way more Exciting than they Should Be, I’d like you to meet my new little friend, a Hobo wallet, or: my first wallet not from Goodwill possibly ever. I’ve always wanted one of these ladies, and was aggressively thrilled to find out that Augie’s cousin works in their corporate office. Hello, wholesale price, employee discount, and new wallet philosophy that does NOT allow me to hoard russian money and undergraduate IDs and broken benadryl. It’s quite possible that I’m growing up.

Clybourne Park

February 20th, 2012 by Bekah Brunstetter

Though this play has received the ‘Pulitzer Prize for Drama’ and the ‘Olivier Award’ and ‘every award for best play ever,’ I’m sure that some part of Bruce Norris has secretly been waiting for my validation. I finally saw it last night at the Mark Taper Forum, and I have to say: Bruce – take a load off, because your play is REAL good. It’s one of those incredible plays that makes you wish, or want to be, more intelligent as a human being. And so I spent the morning learning about a nearly extinct kind of tree frog, and Lindsay Lohans thoughts and feelings about hosting SNL, in general.

Cake.

February 19th, 2012 by Bekah Brunstetter

I really really like this postcard for the Chicago Oohrah! production, mostly because it involves cake, like grocery store cake with silly candles, the absolute best kind of cake. CAKE!

Sometimes you not so accidentally dress in colors complimentary to those of your co workers. So what if you do?

a view from the (my apartment) bridge

February 15th, 2012 by Bekah Brunstetter

I felt it necessary to take a picture of the sky today, even though this picture doesn’t even really grab it: there were these really dark clouds moving in over the mountains and it was REAL pretty. Now, it’s apparently hailing, and I’m hiding inside with Bon Iver and tomato soup. I could practically be anywhere, except for the fact that I’m here.

A Valentine

February 14th, 2012 by Bekah Brunstetter

Loyal fanbase, my Valentine(s) to you are A:) this really disturbing picture of a couple’s glove:

and B.)  the best  One Minute Play Ever by Tommy Smith: The Wire.

You should really watch The Wire.

Uh huh.

It’s really good.

Yeah that’s what everyone keeps saying.

It’s so complex.

Mmm.

Yeah the characters really grow over their arcs and sometimes they’re good and sometimes they’re bad.

Hnm.

So it’s really morally complex.

Yeah that sounds interesting.

You’ve really never seen it?

No.

We should watch it sometime.

Okay.

Just watch the first episode.

All right.

I bet you can’t stop watching after the first episode.

I’ll have to put it on my cue.

Yeah do yourself a favor and get into The Wire.

I’ve just been waiting for the right moment.

Season Two’s really the best.

Oh.

Each season represents a different area of crime in the city of Baltimore.

Baltimore wow.

It’s hard to follow but when you figure out what’s going on it’s mindblowing.

Yeah.

It’s one of the best television shows ever made.

Oh yeah?

I can’t think of a better television show to watch than The Wire.

Yeah I’ll have to see it.

I still can’t believe that you’ve never seen that show.

Crazy right?

It’s really a writer’s show you know?

God that sounds good.

You’d really be impressed by the writing on it.

Yeah.

So you should watch it.

No, I’ve been meaning to.

You really won’t regret it.

No, no.

I mean, the moral complexity?

Mm.

Rich characters.

Yeah.

“The Wire.”

“The Wire.”

Oh can you set your alarm so I can get up for work?

this is day is special, because

February 14th, 2012 by Bekah Brunstetter

This year, to me, Valentines Day just means that I’m wearing some of my favorite golden and floral jewelry, and that at work I ate a cake pop shaped like a tulip. After all: aren’t we meant to love each other, all day, every day, anyways? why must today be covered in STICKERS AND SPARKLES AND GLITTER*?

* I kind of still wish that it would.
