Today, on Things of Little Consequence

December 14th, 2011 by Bekah Brunstetter

Lately I really like wearing m’hairs in a little bun atop my head, fulfilling an unfulfilled middle school need, and I do mean need, to be a ballerina.

Oh Christmascat, Oh Christmascat

December 14th, 2011 by Bekah Brunstetter

Hark! My friend Kit’s Kitten, Albee (yes, after Edward. Oh, the Theater) who likes to climb up inside of the Christmas tree, occasionally getting stuck inside of it, and I’m pretty much dead with glee. It makes me wonder how / what Baby Kitty is doing, and if he’s yet to get a face tattoo or at least a British accent.

D Day!

December 13th, 2011 by Bekah Brunstetter

Hippo birdy to my tiny little baby brother Dan. My Mom is sort of cryptically calling it D Day. Dan’s out of the Marines and wrapping up his first semester of Law Skoo at UNC. He spends today valiantly at the library instead of at the Bar, or at least, as of 11 am. Dan: 27 is a spectacular year. Thank you for helping me always know how old I am, by simply adding 2 years. I wish you a happy beginning of your Saturn Returning, so like, have fun with that.

Two New Old Favorite Things

December 12th, 2011 by Bekah Brunstetter

(Walnuts, or regurgitated carmel brains? IT’S JUST WALNUTS, YOU GUYS!)

Lately my two new old favorite things are Walnuts and Going to Bed. I just CAN’T decide wish I like more. So I think I pick extremely pepperminty gum, the kind that burns.

The Q word

December 12th, 2011 by Bekah Brunstetter

I’ve said this many times before but I thought I’d go ahead and take to the internet about it and make it REAL.

I really hate it when someone calls my writing ‘Quirky.’ They usually don’t mean anything derogatory by it, and I’m genuinely talking to no one in particular, but you might as well be telling me that my crappy homemade cupcakes are adorable and yes they do look like little cats, t’aint that sweet, then you secretly spit it back into your napkin. I rarely get bra burny, but I really feel like Quirky is used a lot to describe women, or things written by women, where as if a dude did it, it would just be straight up funny. I hear Quirky and I take it as emotionally false, idiotic, but ‘cute.’ The success of the New Girl (which I LOVE) is perhaps making me hate the word a tiny bit less, but still, I’m sensitive to it. So like, stop calling me Quirky, or I’ll tell you ‘look like you’re having a lot of fun up there.’

This Christmas

December 12th, 2011 by Bekah Brunstetter

This is my favorite new Christmas album next to Sufjan’s. Put it in your earholes, stat. It’s the perfect background music to decidedly NOT eating cookies.

I know am supposed to be enjoying the LA sun and warmer weather, but honestly, I’d rather be sweatered and seeing my breath and earning my blanket-burrowing. I keep lusting over the the NYC weather and wishing I was there instead (never really being where you are, brought to you by the iphone.) Somebody needs a serious lesson in being in the moment / wherever you go, there you are, or at the very least, a sunny romp in an avocado field. Plantation? Orchard? How do avocados grow?
