Last night, after a spirited day on Magic Island (pictures forthcoming) the ladies and I (RAVENOUS) (FOR FISH THINGS) went to dine at Mezzo in Astoria – a greek / Medditeranian /seafood utopia.

We ate calamari! Fried zucchini and feta things! Greek salad! Seafood pasta with scallops and mussels! Lobster tail! Stuffed clams! Unidentified white fish! Roasted potatoes! And if that wasn’t enough, the owner came to our table to see how we were enjoying our food (to which we replied ‘mmrrrffff (nom nom) – SO! GOOD! mpphhh nom nom nom)  – THEN he sent over a free carafe of wine. And when it was all over – as we sat paralyzed from wine and sun and fish – he sent over free Baklava and milk custard. We happily over-tipped our super sweet waitress and insisted we’d be back again (seriously, we will.) And when she came back to the table and thanked us genuinely, we knew she meant it – and everyone went home glad and slept extra hard –  happy to have been generous.

Steve, in Paris

May 24th, 2009 by Bekah Brunstetter

Did I mention Steve’s in Paris? (Or ‘Stefan’, as he is now referring to himself.)  Steve’s in Paris. I miss him. Hi Steve. Stop reading my blog and go stick some nutella in your face. Anyways. He got a sweet new camera for the journey and has posted some really fantastic pictures. Um, he kind of has a great eye. Like, for things like this:

mom time!

May 24th, 2009 by Bekah Brunstetter

I was joined this weekend by Mom for some serious hardcore momming. We saw South Pacific, ate foods, we scrubbed, we mopped, and obsessed over my new apartment and how to cute it up. So it’s pretty much official, my Mom is superior to all Mothers in terms of prettiness, selflessness and grace, and also lamp-table for daughter buyage. See?

haircut at Commune

May 23rd, 2009 by Bekah Brunstetter

Thanks to a tip from the Kilby’s, I got a haircut today from Commune (just a layered-y trim.) I knew I was in a safe, happy place from the moment I entered – from the tiny cute asian girls in boyfriend jeans staffing the joint, to the cases holding little precious jewelries, to the soft perfect music playing, to the general smell of lilacs.  So when the tiny cute Asian girl who’d been giving me a head and neck massage asked me if I’d like her to rub my hair down with lemon, rosemary, or lavender oil, I just said yes.

Okay, I am pretty much always the last person to get on the boat. Always! So I have just recently started listening to Beirut and I am pretty much obsessed. Their songs make me want to write plays about lesbian accordian players in Switzerland in the early 19th century, or just lay around and listen. Me likey! In other news, have you heard of ‘The Rolling Stones?’ Also, did you know have these things called Cars now?? Also, have you heard of yoga?

Bekah’s Homemade Monologues!

May 20th, 2009 by Bekah Brunstetter

B. take a moment and do a google image search of ‘weird cookie,’ because it is fun.

C. Bekah’s homemade monologues are selling like hot cakes!  I wanted to take a bloggy moment and re-publicize. I’ve been having a great time working on them for some of my favorite actors. For a mere $60, and after you answer a series of questions and your life and artistic pursuits, I write something that’s just for you.  So far, I have dramatically explored everything from fear of dolphins, to making out on airplanes, to Dungeons and Dragons, to fertility, to, well, weird cookies. I’m planning on getting together an evening of them somewhere soon to promote them,  so the actors can strut their stuffs, and I can make cookies, and we can all spill wine on ourselves.

So Get yours while they are hot, even! Interested? Kindly click on that pie looking thing to the right that Steve made, because he is pretty much great all the time.

May 19th, 2009 by Bekah Brunstetter

Indian employee #1, showing another how to work grill: So you just spray it with vegetable oil and then press down until it’s brown.
Indian employee #2: How long?
Indian employee #1: Till its brown like me, not brown like you. Brown like you is too long. Like me, not you.
