It’s that time of year in which my brain that exists outside of my body in a sea of zeros and ones by which I mean Facebook reminds me that this time, three years ago, Julien and I were gallivanting around Costa Rica without a care in the world except for Julien’s allergies.
Every time these memories pop up, either in my actual head because of actual human memory feelings, or on Facebook, I am overjoyed that we got to go do what we did. I will relive its moments forever, and I will never forget it, as FACEBOOK WILL NOT EVEN ALLOW ME TO.

When you and your Valentine are officially all life partnered and shacked up, it is appropriate to start giving them ‘presents’ that are for ‘them’ but that are actually for the both of you, but also maybe for yourself. For example: this year, I made Morrison this book of pictures from our honeymoon so that he could remember it forever, and by ‘he’ I mean ‘myself.’ SAME DIFFERENCE, RIGHT? His family has made big beautiful picture books from each of their family trips, so I thought I’d do the same, as I still like to hold pictures in my hand and not just swipe at them with my fingers. ENJOY, HUSBAND (AND MYSELF!)

When you are born to your parents, you are helpless and small and cute. Then, tragically, you grow up into just another jerk with a blog, and suddenly, THEY are the cute ones. Namely mine. They’re becoming grandparents for the first time next month, so they went on one last hurrah (though surely there will be plenty more hurrahs) up to Vermont to snow-shoe and snow-mobile and other snow verbs that are NOT SKIING AS THEY ARE SOON TO BE GRANDPARENTS. And basically the pictures reveal that it has been the cutest thing. As they are not huge picture posters, it is up to me, the jerk with the blog, to share with the world. PRESENTING, CUTE!

There are seriously not enough Thursdays in the world to Throwback to when it comes to our honeymoon, especially our time in Thailand. I just want to crawl back inside of its moments, float inside of them, gaze off into nothing.

One of my favorite things about Thailand was Gae, our guide for the bike tour / cave hike. We’d been in Thailand for about four days at that point, and all the Thai people we encountered spoke little to no English. Enter Gae, married to an American, nearly fluent in English, with a LIMITLESS AND INFECTIOUS ENERGY, SOMEHOW NEVER SWEATY, and lastly, with a deep love of selfies:
I was able to ask her all the questions that had been accumulating in my mind about everything from Thailand’s monks to the Burmese people to how Shrimp happen. In turn, she kept taking pictures of us like we were famous people. HEY LOVE BIRDS! GO OVER THERE! SIT THERE, IN LOVE! She’d say, and point her phone at us. LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!
Once satisfied: OKAY, WE GOT IT!

We are still on the jet lag struggle bus and keep waking up at 4 AM, like COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY AWAKE but also deeply tired but also desperately in need of toast. You lie there, convincing yourself you’re tired enough to sleep as opposed to just theoretically tired. You think of plays about pillows. You tell stories and make up songs. Here’s a selection from this morning, 5:45 AM, after we’d been just laying there in a hellish in-between for 2 hours:
Me: HOW’S IT GOING?
Me: You awake?
Morrison: I am now. But I’m trying to sleep.
Me: Me too.
A few moments of pretend rest.
Me: (SO LOUD): THE SUN’LL COME OUT / RIGHT NOWWWW / BET YOUR BOTTOM DOLLAR THAT RIGHT NOW / THERE’S THE SUN
Me: RIGHT NOW! RIGHT NOWWWW! THERE’S ALWAYS RIGHT NOW / THERE’S ALWAYS RIGHT NOW, RIGHT NOWWWWWW
Morrison: are you done?
Me: (HYSTERICAL LAUGHTER)

In a surprising and miraculous conclusion to the trip, we were randomly upgraded to business class for our flight from Hong Kong back to LA, which neither of us had ever experienced on an international flight. It means you get your own little pod world to stretch your legs out to infinity, and they bring you meals and meals and meals with always a hot towel in between. We basically spent the entire flight grinning at each other stupidly and shouting things like HEY LOOK! TINY THING OF OLIVE OIL! and rubbing our faces in the towels and just being amateurs and very un-business like, and conducting absolutely no business whatsoever. A perfect conclusion to a perfecter trip WHAT ARE WORDS WHAT IS TIME OKAY BACK TO BUSINESS

Folks, if you’re just tuning in / playing along from home: we are in fact leaving on our honeymoon TOMORROW instead of YESTERDAY. Also, this is a terrible game show. There are no prizes. Maybe find something else to do. Other announcements related to the trip that I am going on, but YOU are not going on, so why do I force you to ride the waves of its drama with me?!: I’m not bringing my computer. Huge, I know. While I COULD get some cool staged pictures of myself ‘working,’ I am more excited to disconnect from my beast friend for a few days for the first time in years and years. I have nightmares monthly that I leave it somewhere. I will now do so on purpose, open my brain back up, confront my bad handwriting, force myself to not google my own thoughts, but instead just have them. The real question: will I blog? I can do so from my phone. And so, PROBABLY.

The beautiful and simple yet moderately sturdy Oak Island Pier, that I spent my childhood walking up and down, that my idiot brothers and cousins lept off of, that I tried to meet boys on, has sadly been destroyed by Hurricane Matthew.
Watching the video of its collapse stabbed hard at my heart, but being that coastal Carolinians are strong and used to storms and the rebuilding that comes after, I have faith that it will soon reappier.

Tiny little baby brothers Dan and Tim are on a plane right now to Iceland! I myself was there three years ago nearly to the date, gallivanting around and eating tiny lobsters and standing beneath waterfalls and freezing in Magie’s mother’s winter coats near various glacier lagoons. The very thought of my brothers driving around and doing the same things fills me with GIANT GIDDY FEELINGS OF ENVY AND JOY WHICH IS TO SAY, JOYNVY. I’LL JUST CONTINUE TO SIT HERE AND MAKE UP WORDS. HAVE FUN BROSTETTERS!!!
