moment catcher

May 14th, 2018 by Bekah Brunstetter

I promise that tomorrow I’ll return to regular coverage of my weird bad dreams, but just one more time, Tulum. I love this picture I took:

These two dudes (whom the girls sitting across from us noted had ‘extreme Dothraki vibes’) were just spinning around on the roof of this nest, reveling in the storm clouds as they moved in. I mean, just before they started spinning, they were taking an absurd amount of panoramic pictures, but then at a certain point, they stopped taking pictures, and just experienced the moment. Enter ME, secretly taking a picture of THEM while they thoroughly inhabited the moment. Is there a business there? You hire someone to secretly capture you in authentic moments, in which you don’t know that your picture is being taken at all? IS THERE?

Wait.

I think I mean photographer.

Yes I do.

I mean photographer.

extended forecast

May 3rd, 2018 by Bekah Brunstetter

When preparing for any sort of travel, I maintain my typical chill energy and only check the extended weather forecast 6-7 times a day. I just find it incredibly useful to know what will be happening to and around myself ten days from now. I wish there could be an extended forecast for life. Like, A week from Wednesday you will drink too much wine and have that dream where you have five babies but they live inside of the deli counter at the grocery store so you’re going to wake up very confused and unable to accomplish anything so maybe don’t schedule work for Thursday and also bring an umbrella

TULUM!

April 26th, 2018 by Bekah Brunstetter

Elizabeth and I usually head to Palm Springs for our birthdays, for a weekend of sun and chips and giggling at each other, but this year, slightly on a whim, we’ve decided to go to Tulum, so that I might be on vacation literally until the moment that I go back to work (read: the very next morning.) DID WE GET SO EXCITED THAT WE BOOKED THE HOTEL SUPER QUICKLY BEFORE READING ALL OF THE REVIEWS, ONLY TO COME TO FIND THAT A GOOD 50% OF PEOPLE WHO STAY IN THE ‘RUSTIC CHIC’ ESTABLISHMENT HATE IT WITH A FIRE RESERVED ONLY FOR ONE STAR TRIP ADVISOR REVIEWS?

You KNOW it.

MIGHT OUR ‘PRIVATE PLUNGE POOL’ BE FULL OF SEAWEED AND BUGS? PERHAPS MAYBE. IF SUCH IS THE CASE, WILL I SPEND THE WEEKEND STILL COUNTING MY BLESSINGS THAT I GET TO GO AT ALL, AND BE WITH MY FRIEND, AND STARING AT THIS PICTURE OF WHAT IT’S SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE?

You know THAT, also.

how to say

April 21st, 2018 by Bekah Brunstetter

I’m not going to go on my exotic cultural exchange trips to exotic and rugged foreign lands like the US state of Hawaii and NOT share my anthropological findings with you. And so, here you go:

The instrument above is NOT pronounced YOU-KOO-LAY-LEE.

It is pronounced. OOO-KOO-LAY-LAY.

I learned this from a trusted native I encountered, by which I mean a guidebook I purchased from Amazon, so it must be true. Okay students, go forth and spread truth. CORRECT EVERY PERSON WHO SAYS IT WRONG. CORRECT THEM ARROGANTLY.

PARADISE ALERT

January 13th, 2018 by Bekah Brunstetter

While I am so sorry for everyone in Hawaii who rid the wave of this massively false alarm happened today, I’m just going to entertain myself the rest of the day by imagining people in bathing suits, lunging for pina coladas, crawling under patio furniture, careful so they don’t spill their drink.

the carrot

January 9th, 2018 by Bekah Brunstetter

Say, it is only nine days into the New Year and you already feel like there is no end in sight?

IMPULSIVELY PURCHASE A TRIP TO HAWAII FOR FOUR MONTHS FROM NOW.

TAPE A PICTURE OF THE SCENE TO YOUR MIND’S EYE.

Get back to work.

if not

December 24th, 2017 by Bekah Brunstetter

Remember how yesterday I was all philosophically like wahhhhh, I maybe want to be someplace far way and regarding something grand! OPEN YOUR EYES, BRUNSTETTER. The view from the Foster-Keddie estate up in Olypmia, Washington, is stunning,  if not tranquil and quieting, if not completely humbling:

Is this how you use ‘if not?’ Asking for a friend. Myself. My friend is myself. We hang out often, if not always.

near / far

December 23rd, 2017 by Bekah Brunstetter

Today, on I am a  Gemini whose brain lives inside of the internet: both Facebook and my Blog remind me that one year ago, we were in Thailand, hiking to caves and bathing elephants, waking up each morning and going to bed each night with this:

While a part of me longs to be really far away, gazing at something miraculous that I’ve never seen before and is jealous of all the people currently on similar Christmas adventures, there is an equal part of me who is glad to be close to home and happy to stare instead at Christmas ornaments and the Puget Sound and family and new play word documents and walls,  who tells herself that there is adventure in comfort. It’s a new game called REST, which I need right now, so much. OKAY BYE, OFF TO WIN!
